Toronto City Hall

Toronto City Hall is defined by its two curved concrete towers of unequal height, which appear to cradle a low, saucer-shaped council chamber between them. Completed in nineteen sixty-five, this Neo-Expressionist structure replaced a nineteenth-century Romanesque predecessor that had grown too small for the expanding city. Finnish architect Viljo Revell designed the building to project a sense of modern optimism, departing sharply from the ornate, heavy masonry traditions of the past.
