Trinity College is marked by soaring limestone spires and pointed Gothic archways that create a secluded, cloistered environment within the larger university campus. Founded in eighteen fifty-one by John Strachan, the first Anglican Bishop of Toronto, the college was established as a direct response to the secularization of the university then known as King’s College. Strachan envisioned a university that would maintain a strong Anglican orientation, and for its first five decades, the institution operated independently on a site now occupied by Trinity Bellwoods Park.
