Hart House is a sprawling Collegiate Gothic complex defined by its four wings surrounding a central courtyard. Commissioned by Vincent Massey and designed by architect Henry Sproatt, it officially opened on Remembrance Day in nineteen nineteen as a gathering place for University of Toronto students. The building is named after Massey's grandfather, Hart Massey.
