Canoe Landing Park

Canoe Landing Park is defined by an artificial hill known as the bluff, which rises above the Gardiner Expressway. This eight-acre green space was created on land once located along the original nineteenth-century shoreline of Lake Ontario. To build the park, landscape architects and the artist Douglas Coupland used twenty thousand to twenty-five thousand dump truck loads of fill that were diverted from landfills, forming an elevated promontory that allows visitors to look out across the highway toward the water.
