The Cima de la Libertad is defined by the Templo de la Patria, a brutalist structure built into the steep slopes of the Pichincha volcano at an altitude of three thousand one hundred meters. This museum, designed by architect Milton Barragán and inaugurated in nineteen eighty-two, marks the exact location where the Battle of Pichincha occurred on May twenty-fourth, eighteen twenty-two. Its design incorporates the mountain's natural slope, featuring a terrace garden and a striking mural by Ecuadorian artist Eduardo Kingman titled Canto a la Rebeldía.
