La Petite Ceinture

La Petite Ceinture is a defunct railway line that forms a partial circle around Paris, tucked inside the boulevards des Maréchaux. Construction on this thirty-two-kilometer loop began in eighteen fifty-two to connect the five major train stations of the capital, which were then owned by separate companies that refused to link their networks. By eighteen sixty-two, the line opened to passengers and became a vital piece of the city's infrastructure.
