Ancien pavillon d'octroi Nord de la barrière du Trône

The Northern Octroi Pavilion stands as one half of the historic Barrière du Trône, easily identified by the massive, twenty-eight-meter-tall column that rises beside it. Designed by the architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux and completed around seventeen eighty-seven, this building was part of a broader perimeter wall—the Wall of the Fermiers Généraux—built to collect taxes on goods entering Paris. The pavilion provided offices and lodgings for the officials who monitored this flow of merchandise into the city.
