Orleansplatz

other

Orleansplatz is defined by its distinctive semi-circular shape, sitting directly across from the Munich Ostbahnhof. The square serves as the gateway to the surrounding French Quarter, a neighborhood layout conceived in eighteen seventy-two following the German victory in the Franco-Prussian War. City planners designed the streets here to radiate outward from central squares in a star shape, intentionally naming them after sites of German military success, including the Battle of Orléans.
