Wiener Platz is defined by a central maypole that rises above a collection of low-lying, shuttered market stalls. Located in the Haidhausen district, the square took its name in eighteen ninety-one from the adjacent Innere Wiener Strasse, which served as the original road connecting Munich to the Austrian capital of Vienna.
