Heilig Geist

The Heilig Geist church is identifiable by a lantern dome that rises above the surrounding stalls of the Viktualienmarkt. This structure began as a hospital chapel for the poor and sick in the thirteenth century, long before the famous market square existed around it. After a devastating fire in thirteen twenty-seven, the site was rebuilt as the Gothic hall church that forms the core of the building today.
