Frauenkirche

The Frauenkirche is defined by its twin brick towers capped with rounded, copper onion domes. These towers rise nearly ninety-nine meters above the city, and municipal regulations prevent any new buildings in the center of Munich from exceeding their height. Built between fourteen sixty-eight and fourteen eighty-eight, the cathedral was designed by Jörg von Halsbach as a massive late Gothic hall church. While its scale was meant to hold twenty thousand people, fifteenth-century Munich had fewer than fifteen thousand residents.
