Propylaea

The Propylaea is a massive stone gateway on the western side of Königsplatz, distinguished by two powerful, block-like towers joined by a central archway. Completed by architect Leo von Klenze in eighteen sixty-two, the structure is designed in the Doric order and draws its inspiration directly from the monumental entrance to the Athenian Acropolis. It features columns on the exterior and displays intricate stone reliefs that commemorate the Greek War of Independence.
