Obelisk von König Ludwig I

The black obelisk rising from the center of Karolinenplatz reaches twenty-nine meters into the air, a dark, slender spike contrasting with the surrounding greenery. Erected in eighteen thirty-three, this monument was commissioned by King Ludwig the First to honor the thirty thousand Bavarian soldiers who perished during Napoleon’s disastrous Russian campaign of eighteen twelve.
