The Müller’sches Volksbad is identified by a prominent clock tower that rises above the banks of the Isar River. Completed in nineteen oh one, this Art Nouveau building was designed by architect Carl Hocheder as Munich’s first public indoor swimming facility. Its construction was funded by the engineer Karl Müller, who bequeathed his assets to the city with the specific requirement that the facility provide a place for personal hygiene to the less affluent citizens of Munich, as private bathrooms were then a rarity.
