The Volksfestplatz is a vast, paved square located on the southeastern edge of Nuremberg, bordered by the Dutzendteich lake and the massive, incomplete shell of the Congress Hall. It is defined by its wide, flat surface, designed to accommodate heavy carnival rides and crowds during the city’s major seasonal fairs. Since nineteen fifty-three, this site has functioned as the primary home for Nuremberg’s spring and autumn folk festivals.
