Pnyx

natural

The Pnyx is a semicircular hill of eroded stone and exposed bedrock located less than one kilometer west of the Acropolis. This hillside features a large, flat, rectangular platform carved directly into the rock, known as the bema. From approximately five hundred seven BC to three hundred twenty-two BC, this site served as the official meeting place for the Athenian assembly, or ekklesia, where male citizens gathered to debate and vote on the laws and policies of their city-state.
