Choragic Monument of Lysicrates

The Choragic Monument of Lysicrates is a circular marble structure topped with a cupola carved to resemble laurel leaves. Built in three hundred thirty-four BC, it is the first ancient monument known to use Corinthian columns on its exterior. It exists because a wealthy citizen named Lysicrates commissioned it to display a bronze tripod trophy, which he won as the sponsor of a successful musical performance at the Theater of Dionysus.
