Archaeological Site of the Lyceum of Aristotle

historic

The Archaeological Site of the Lyceum is defined by the weathered stone foundations of an ancient gymnasium, which lie exposed in a quiet, green park near the Byzantine Museum. This site marks where Aristotle founded his Peripatetic school in three hundred thirty-five BC. Long before he began teaching there, the area was a sacred space dedicated to Apollo Lyceus and a hub for military training and athletic contests.
