National Historical Museum - Old Parliament House

The National Historical Museum occupies the Old Parliament House, a neoclassical building on Stadiou Street characterized by its imposing façade and the bronze equestrian statue of General Theodoros Kolokotronis standing in the square out front. Queen Amalia laid the foundation stone in eighteen fifty-eight to house the Greek Parliament and Senate, though the building was not inaugurated until eighteen seventy-five. Its design began with French architect François Boulanger and was later modified by the Greek architect Panagiotis Kalkos.
