Stoa Emporon (Passage of the Merchants)

The Stoa Emporon, or Passage of the Merchants, is a narrow commercial arcade recognizable by a dramatic double marble staircase connecting its two levels. Designed by architects Leonidas Bonis and Emmanouil Lazaridis in nineteen fifty, the structure occupies the ground floor of a building that once housed the Merchants’ Fund. While it thrived as a retail hub throughout the nineteen sixties and seventies, the space eventually fell into decline as businesses relocated and the site was largely abandoned following the financial crisis in two thousand nine.
