Eighteen sixty-four The Sea Captain's House stands in Oia as a rare survivor of the nineteen fifties earthquake that leveled much of the surrounding village. This two-story mansion is built partly into the volcanic cliffside, showing a distinct contrast between its Renaissance-inspired upper facade of dark volcanic stone and the traditional, creamy-colored lower levels.
