Church of Agios Georgios

The Church of Agios Georgios is recognizable by its bright yellow exterior and its position on a small square shaded by cypress trees. Built at the beginning of the nineteenth century in the Perivolas neighborhood, it is one of the two parish churches in Oia. The local families often constructed such buildings as expressions of gratitude after surviving dangerous voyages at sea, and this particular site is tied to the Nomikos shipping family.
