The tomb of Ataga Khan is a square red sandstone mausoleum identifiable by its dome and its intricate white marble inlays. Built between fifteen sixty-two and fifteen sixty-six, the structure honors a man who rose from a foot soldier to become the prime minister of Emperor Akbar. Ataga Khan earned his title as the emperor’s foster father after his wife, Jiji Anaga, served as Akbar’s chief wet nurse.
