Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace

Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace is defined by its two-story wooden frame, constructed entirely of teak. Its exterior is marked by a series of soaring, graceful arches and tall, monumental pillars that support the upper balconies. Built as a summer retreat and known by the ruler as his "abode of happiness," the structure was begun in seventeen eighty-one by his father, Hyder Ali, and completed in seventeen ninety-one.
