The City Palace

The City Palace is a sprawling complex of courtyards, gardens, and buildings defined by its fusion of Mughal and Rajput architecture, all enclosed within the heart of the walled city of Jaipur. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh the Second commissioned this royal seat between seventeen twenty-nine and seventeen thirty-two, after moving his capital from the nearby hilltop fort of Amber due to a growing population and water shortages. The complex features the seven-storied Chandra Mahal, which continues to house the Jaipur royal family in a private section today.
