Ammunition Hill is defined by a complex network of narrow, limestone-lined trenches and bunkers that remain much as they were during the Six-Day War in nineteen sixty-seven. Originally developed by the British during their mandate as a storage site for police academy ammunition, the hill was later fortified by Jordanian forces who occupied it for nineteen years. Its position made it a central barrier separating West Jerusalem from an Israeli enclave on Mount Scopus.
