Batei Ungarin, or the Hungarian Houses, is a dense cluster of two and three-story stone dwellings defined by a series of sculptural, shared stairways tucked within its internal courtyards. Established in eighteen ninety-one, the neighborhood was built by the Kolel Ungarin, a Hungarian Jewish charity organization, to house immigrant families arriving from Hungary.
