Deir Al-Sultan

Deir Al-Sultan is a monastic compound situated on the rooftop of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It is a cluster of small, mud-plastered huts and domed chapels gathered around an open courtyard, sitting directly above the Chapel of Saint Helena. While the main nave of the great church is often crowded, the rooftop is a quiet, stone-paved space where incense smoke frequently drifts through the air.
