Damascus Gate

landmark

Damascus Gate is defined by its crowning, jagged battlements that rise above a central archway, creating a profile resembling a royal crown. It serves as the primary northern entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem, standing as the main connection point for the bustling markets of the Muslim Quarter. The current stone structure was built in fifteen thirty-seven by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, but it rests directly atop the foundations of a far older Roman gate.
