Al-Qattanin Street, also known as Suq al-Qattanin, is a covered market passage defined by its barrel-vaulted ceiling and a series of skylight openings that channel narrow beams of natural light onto the stone floor. Stretching ninety-five meters from the main thoroughfare of El-Wad Road to the western edge of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the market is lined with fifty symmetrical stone shop units. Above these commercial spaces, travelers once found residential quarters used by visiting pilgrims and religious scholars.
