Roman Catholic Franciscan Cemetery

historic

The Roman Catholic Franciscan Cemetery clings to the southern slope of Mount Zion, marked by a high stone wall and a wrought-iron gate. Inside, the grounds are tiered into levels connected by circular stone steps, a layout necessitated by the steep hillside. Many of the burials here belong to Franciscan monks and nuns, as well as local Arab Catholic families whose roots in the region span generations.
