Nonomiya-jinja

Nonomiya-jinja is distinguished by the kuroki torii, an entrance gate constructed from unstripped timber that retains its dark bark. This rare, rustic style reaches back to the oldest traditions of Shinto architecture, standing in contrast to the vibrant vermilion gates found at most other shrines. The shrine is surrounded by the brushwood fences commonly seen along the nearby bamboo forest paths, creating a secluded atmosphere that has remained a part of the landscape since the Heian period.
