Seiryōji, often called Saga Shakadō, is distinguished by its vermilion main hall that stands out against the surrounding greenery. Originally the site of a ninth-century villa belonging to the aristocrat Minamoto no Tōru—frequently cited as the inspiration for the protagonist in The Tale of Genji—the grounds were later transformed into this temple.
