Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

The Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is defined by its towering stalks of Moso bamboo, which reach heights of up to twenty meters and create a dense, emerald canopy over the walking paths. This grove is part of the broader Sagano landscape, a region that served as a retreat for the imperial court as early as the Heian Period. The paths, including the main four-hundred-meter route known as the Path of Bamboo, wind through these stalks near the Tenryū-ji Temple and the Nonomiya Shrine.
