Yanaka Ginza Yūyake Dandan

Yuyake Dandan, or Sunset Steps, is a stone staircase that connects the Gotenzaka slope to the Yanaka Ginza shopping street. The name, which translates to sunset stairs, originated from a public competition held in nineteen ninety. These steps are a known vantage point for watching the sun dip behind the low-rise rooftops of a district that largely avoided the widespread destruction of the Great Kanto Earthquake and the air raids of the second World War.
