Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine is defined by a dense tunnel of vermillion torii gates that wind up a hillside, a structure reminiscent of the famous pathways in Kyoto. Dedicated to the Shinto deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the site holds a rare place in the city's history, having survived the major fires and wartime bombings that leveled much of the surrounding area. Most of the buildings visitors see today were completed in seventeen oh six, commissioned by the fifth Tokugawa shogun, Tsunayoshi.
