Kayaba Coffee

Kayaba Coffee stands out for its weathered, two-story wooden exterior featuring dashi-geta-zukuri eaves, where horizontal wooden beams protrude above the windows. This building, constructed in nineteen sixteen, originally operated as a milk hall and sweets shop before Inosuke Kayaba opened his coffee shop here in nineteen thirty-eight. During the Showa era, the shop became a local fixture, famously serving as a gathering spot for artists and intellectuals from the nearby Tokyo Fine Arts School.
