The Museo del Instituto de Geología de la UNAM is defined by its façade of volcanic ignimbrite stone, which is carved with relief figures of fossilized fish, shells, and reptiles. Located in the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood, this structure was designed to house the national geological research institute, an ambitious project initiated in the late nineteenth century to catalog the country's natural resources.
