The Biblioteca Vasconcelos is defined by its massive, cavernous interior filled with suspended steel bookshelves that appear to float in mid-air. Designed by architect Alberto Kalach and opened in two thousand six, this structure in the Buenavista neighborhood is often called a megalibrary. It is dedicated to José Vasconcelos, a philosopher and former president of the National Library of Mexico who campaigned for widespread access to education.
