National Art Museum

The National Art Museum occupies a grand neoclassical building defined by a heavy, ornate facade and the towering bronze equestrian statue of Charles the Fourth of Spain standing in the plaza out front. Known locally as the Palace of Communications, the structure was built between nineteen oh four and nineteen eleven to serve as the Secretariat of Communications and Public Works. Designed by the Italian architect Silvio Contri, the building was intended to showcase Mexico’s commitment to modernization through a deliberate fusion of diverse architectural styles.
