The Mercado de San Juan Pugibet is identifiable by the dense clusters of exotic animal heads—including buffalo, wild boar, and kangaroo—mounted above the stalls. Built in nineteen fifty-five, this market occupies the former site of the Buen Tono cigarette company’s warehouses. The building takes its name from Ernesto Pugibet, the factory owner who gifted the land to the city.
