UAM First Printing House in America

The Casa de la Primera Imprenta de América is a colonial building identifiable by its location at the corner of Moneda and Licenciado Primo Verdad streets. Originally constructed in the fifteen twenties, the house earned its name in fifteen thirty-nine when the Italian printer Juan Pablos set up the first printing press in the Americas here. Working under a contract for the Seville-based publisher Juan Cromberger, Pablos produced some of the earliest books in the New World, including a catechism written in both Spanish and the Mexican language.
