Spuistraat one hundred ninety-nine is a building recognized by its history as the Slangenpand, or Snakehouse. For decades, the site was defined by a large, psychedelic mural of a serpent that wrapped around its exterior, signaling its status as a prominent squatters' stronghold in central Amsterdam. The structure itself dates back to the sixteenth century, built with timber sourced from Iceland, and once served as the headquarters for the Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau news agency.
