Oude Kerk Amsterdam

The Oude Kerk is recognizable by its massive, dark silhouette rising above the surrounding narrow buildings, topped by a tall bell tower completed in fifteen sixty-five. As the oldest building in Amsterdam, its history began around twelve thirteen with a small wooden chapel built on a levee by local fishermen. By thirteen oh six, it was consecrated as a stone church dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors.
