Zuiderkerk

The Zuiderkerk is defined by a stone tower that reaches eighty meters into the sky, capped by an octagonal spire that dominates the Nieuwmarkt area. Constructed between sixteen oh three and sixteen eleven, this was the first building in Amsterdam designed specifically for Protestant services after the Reformation. Its architect, Hendrick de Keyser, envisioned the church as a pseudo-basilica in the Amsterdam Renaissance style, featuring Tuscan columns and timber barrel vaults. De Keyser died in sixteen twenty-one and was buried within the church he created.
