Plac Solny sixteen is recognizable by the neoclassical Stara Giełda, or Old Stock Exchange, which commands the south side of the square with a prominent Corinthian portico and balcony. This building, constructed between eighteen twenty-two and eighteen twenty-four by architect Carl Ferdinand Langhans, replaced earlier medieval townhouses and a Renaissance palace that once served as a guild headquarters.
