The main building of the University of Wrocław is a massive Baroque structure designed by Christoph Tausch, easily identified by the Mathematical Tower that rises forty-two meters above the Oder riverbank. Founded in seventeen oh two by Emperor Leopold the First as a Jesuit academy, the building sits on the site of a former Piast castle. Its most celebrated space, the Aula Leopoldina, was built between seventeen twenty-eight and seventeen thirty-two to serve as a ceremonial hall.
