Roman Catholic parish church NMP on the Sand in Wroclaw

The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Sand features a massive, all-brick Gothic exterior and two distinct towers, one of which remains unfinished. It sits on Sand Island in the Oder River, a location that derives its name from the Latin Sancta Maria in Arena. The nobleman Piotr Włostowic and his wife, Maria, established a Romanesque church on this site during the twelfth century.
