Zeenatul Islam Mosque

The Zeenatul Islam Mosque stands on the corner of Chapel and Muir Streets in District Six, identifiable by its minaret and the dome rising above the neighborhood. It began in nineteen oh six as a small prayer room at number three Muir Street, established by immigrants from the Gujarat region of India who had settled in this part of Cape Town. By nineteen twenty-three, the community had outgrown its first space and completed a new building on this corner.
