The Old Town House on Greenmarket Square is identifiable by its double-storey Cape Rococo façade, a style characterized by its ornate gables and balanced, symmetrical design. Completed in seventeen sixty-one, the building originally served as the Burgher Watch House, a headquarters for the city's citizen militia, before eventually becoming the seat of the Burgher Senate and Cape Town’s first City Hall.
